The Holy Qur’an did not provide the complete story of our prophet Elias( Arabic: النبي الياس ), peace be upon him, or his miracles explicitly, but there are many accounts about his story, and among those accounts is that he called his Lord against his people after they rejected his message, saying: “Oh Allah, the Children of Israel have accepted nothing but disbelief in You and worshiping others.
They do not have your grace.” And Allah revealed to him that we have placed the matter of their sustenance in your hand, and you are the one who commands that.
As for the miracles of Elias prophet, peace be upon him,
Allah Almighty performed by prophet Elias, peace be upon him, several miracles, including the following:
- Resurrecting several dead.
- Extinguish the fire at his command.
- He commanded him – peace be upon him – to the fire not to burn the king’s wife who was thrown into the fire by the king because of her faith.
- He kept the rain from his people after he threatened them if they insisted on their stubbornness and disbelief.
- The revelation of the unseen, after some of his people, believed in his claim and united Allah the Highest.
What did the people of Elias prophet worship?
Elias is a prophet of the prophets of the people of Israel mentioned in the Quran and believes that it is the same Elijah mentioned in the Old Testament. Elias’s prophet peace be upon him sent to the people of Baalbek west of Damascus, the Prophet Elias peace be upon him has invited the people of Israel to the worship of Allah and leave the worship of an idol they call «Baala». This idol was a woman named Baal.
They denied him, and Ibn Abbas said: “Elias is al-Yasa’s uncle.” As for Ibn Katheer, he says: Elias and Eliasin are two names for one man, so the Arabs join the nun in many names and replace them with others. But the people of Israel rejected his call and did not believe him, and they denied the Prophet Elias peace be upon him.
It is said that the Elias Prophet‘s peace be upon him died and was buried in Baalbek. There is the shrine and monastery of the Prophet Elias in the Bekaa.
It is mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohamed peace be upon him.
It was mentioned in the Qur’an 3 times, once in Surat Al-An’am, and twice in Surat Al-Saffat (assuming that Eliasen is the same as Elias because the Arabs append the nun in many names and replace it with others).
As it was mentioned in Surat As-Saffat Allah says that:
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ 123 إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ 124 أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ 125 اللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ 126 فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ 127 إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ 128 وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ 129 سَلَامٌ عَلَى إِلْ يَاسِينَ 130 إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ 131 إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ 132.(سورة الصافات، الآيات 123-132).
As mentioned in Surat Al-An’am:
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَى وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ 84 وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَإِلْيَاسَ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ 85.(سورة الأنعام، الآيات 84-85).
Is Prophet Elias raised by God?
No, Prophet Elias peace be upon him isn’t raised by God.
As for the survival of one of the prophets, other than Jesus, peace be upon him – alive, it has already been denied that the fatwa number: 101236, and Jesus will die after the killing of the Antichrist before the Yawm al-Qiyaamah.
As for the ascension to heaven with regard to prophet Elias – peace be upon him: There is nothing in the Holy Qur’an, nor in the Sunnah to indicate that Allah Almighty raised him to heaven explicitly, or to deny that, and stories are narrated from the narrations of the People of the Book in raising Elias prophet peace be upon him to heaven, and they also said In the story of Idris (peace be upon him) and some of the Companions of the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) mentioned that Elias is Idris, whom Allah said in his right:
وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا {مريم:57}
and we have already discussed the interpretation of this verse in Fatwa No.: 23116, and the closest is that he is another prophet, as this was mentioned by Ibn Katheer – may Allah have mercy on him – as in Fatwa No.: 94519.
Prophet Mohammed(peace be upon him) has ordered what comes to Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Abu Hurairah- may Allah be pleased with him- he said:
“The People of the Book used to read the Torah in Hebrew, and they explained it in Arabic for the people of Islam, so the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Do not believe the People of the Book, and do not lie to them,” and say: We believe in Allah and what He has revealed. To us and what was revealed to you.
In another Hadith confirm that as follows:
Abu Dawood narrated in his Sunan, and Ibn Hibban in his Sahih on the authority of Abu Namlat al-Ansari -may Allah be pleased with him- the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: What the People of the Book have told you, do not believe them, and do not deny them, and say: We believe in Allah It was false, you did not believe it, and if it was true, you did not deny it.
Is Prophet Elias the same as Idris prophet?
There are two viewers that the Prophet Elias (peace be upon him) is the Prophet of Idris, and the other opinion is that each of them is a different prophet.
Allah has said Almighty Elias peace be upon him in the Holy Quran in two places, as follows:
وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَإِلْيَاسَ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ {الأنعام:85}.
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنْ الْمُرْسَلِينَ {الصافات:123}.
Allah also mentioned Idris, peace be upon him, in two places as follows:
وَاذْكُرْ فِي الْكِتَابِ إِدْرِيسَ إِنَّهُ كَانَ صِدِّيقًا نَّبِيًّا {مريم:56}.
وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ كُلٌّ مِّنَ الصَّابِرِينَ {الأنبياء:85}.
Some scholars have gone Companions of the Prophet Mohamed (peace be upon him) and after them, as follows: They-Undecided Elias prophet (peace be upon him) and Adras(peace be upon him)- names of the Prophet and one, and Elias is Idris and Idris is Elias.
Ibn Katheer said in Stories of the Prophets: Al-Bukhari said: It is reported on the authority of Ibn Masoud and Ibn Abbas that Elias is Idris, and they were at ease. That is what was mentioned in the hadith of Al-Zuhri on the authority of Anas in the Night Journey that when he, peace be upon him, passed by Idris, he said to him, “Welcome to the righteous brother and the righteous prophet.” He did not say, as Adam and Ibrahim said, “Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son.” is over. This is what Al-Dahhak bin Muzahim said, and it was narrated by Qatada and Muhammad bin Ishaq. This is what Ibn Kathir said.
Ibn Katheer suggested that they are different and that Elias prophet (peace be upon him) is not Idris (Peace be upon him), so he said: The correct opinion is that he changed it as mentioned above.
How many times is the Prophet Elias mentioned in the Qur’an?
It was mentioned in the Qur’an 3 times, once in Surat Al-An’am, and twice in Surat Al-Saffat (assuming that Eliasin is the same as Elias because the Arabs append the nun in many names and replace it with others).
As it was mentioned in Surat As-Saffat Allah says that:
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ 123 إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ 124 أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ 125 اللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ 126 فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ 127 إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ 128 وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ 129 سَلَامٌ عَلَى إِلْ يَاسِينَ 130 إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ 131 إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ 132.(سورة الصافات، الآيات 123-132).
As mentioned in Surat Al-An’am:
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَى وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ 84 وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَإِلْيَاسَ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ 85.(سورة الأنعام، الآيات 84-85).

Allah ordered Prophet Elias( peace be upon him) to go on a particular day to a particular place he will send Allah something to his ride, he went Elias and Elisha -alehma Salam to that place sent the Allah of his horse was said that the color as the color of fire, went up by Elias and stepped up his horse and tossed Xah in the air to be so marked on the replacement of Elisha exalt his mention, the people of Israel, and thus ended the era of Prophet Elias peace be upon him.
Hadith about elias prophet
There are some of Hadith about Elias prophet as follows:
- Abu Ya’qub al-Adhra’i said, on the authority of Yazid bin Abd al-Samad, on the authority of Hisham bin Ammar, he said: I heard someone mentioning Ka’b al-Ahbar that he said: Prophet Elias disappeared from the king of his people in the cave, which was under the blood for ten years, until Allah destroyed the king, and appointed someone else, so he came to him Prophet Elias, so Islam was presented to him, and he embraced Islam, and a great generation of his people embraced Islam, other than ten thousand of them, so he ordered them to be killed and the last of them were killed.
- Ibn Abi al-Dunya said: Abu Muhammad al-Qasim ibn Hashim told me, Umar ibn Saeed al-Dimashqi told us, Saeed ibn Abd al-Aziz told us, on the authority of some of the sheiks of Damascus, he said: Prophet elias, peace be upon him, stayed on the run from his people in a mountain cave for twenty nights – or he said: forty nights. Crows come to him with his sustenance.
- Muhammad ibn Sa`d, the writer of al-Waqidi, said: Hisham ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sa`ib al-Kalbi told us, on the authority of his father, who said: The first prophet sent was Idris, then Noah, then Abraham, then Ismail, and Isaac, then Jacob, then Joseph, then Lot, then Hod, then Salih, then Shuaib, then Musa and Harun, the sons of Imran, then Prophet Elias Al-Tashbi bin Al-Azar bin Harun bin Imran bin Qahth bin Lawi bin Yaqoub bin Ishaq bin Ibrahim, peace be upon them. So he said and in this order looked.
- Makhoul said on the authority of Ka’b: Four prophets are alive: two on earth, Prophet Elias and Al-Khidr, and two in the sky: Idris and Jesus, peace be upon them. From Zamzam, a drink is enough for them to like it next year. And we mentioned the hadith in which: They meet at Arafat every year. And we explained that none of that is true and that what is based on the evidence is: that al-Khidr died, and so did Prophet elias, peace be upon them.
And what Wahb bin Munabbih and others mentioned: that when he called Allah, the Mighty, and Sublime, to take him to Him when they denied Him and hurt Him, an animal the color of fire came to him. To Al-Yasa bin Aktuob, regarding this, he is one of the Israeli women who neither believe nor lie, but it seems that their authenticity is far away, and Allah knows best.
What are the Attributes of Prophet Elias, peace be upon him?
The Prophet of Allah Elias was distinguished by many good qualities, like all the prophets, peace be upon them, who Allah favored some of them over others and preferred them over the worlds, and supported them with miracles to be proof against people. The following are some of the qualities that were mentioned in the matter of Elias, peace be upon him:
Patience: Where he kept claiming his people without or boredom
Courage: He was able to call his people despite the strength of the infidel armies.
– Honesty.
– wisdom.
– honesty.
How did Elias prophet die?

Muhammad al-Amin al-Shanqiti in his book Adhwa’ al-Bayaan compiled a chapter in which he prolonged the soul and proved with what is reported and reasonable the death of al-Khidr, peace be upon him.

Elias’s summary:
When prophet Elias, peace be upon him, called his people to worship Allah Almighty alone and obey His command, Elias prophet called them to unite with Allah and that the only one worthy of worship is Allah who created them, and he forbade them from worshipping anything else, but they did not respond to him and rejected his call, and they went on worshipping other Allah’s.
They went wrong, so Elias prophet prayed to Allah, saying, “O Allah, they have refused anything except disbelieving in you and worshipping others; therefore, modify what they have of your grace.” They then begged Allah’s Prophet Elias, peace be upon him, to share that information about them, and they agreed If they were hit by rain, Elias prophet needed to believe in himself. Al-Gwaith, but they reverted to the most heinous disbelief, and they lost what was in Allah’s promise with them, till they built idols and worshiped them instead of Allah.
So prophet Elias begged Allah to take him to him, and the stubborn people’s punishment was horrible anguish in this world and the next, the consequence for their refusal and for breaking their pledge to him and associating themselves with their Lord, with the exception of Allah’s genuine followers. And Allah Almighty imprinted a good remembrance of Elias, peace be upon him, on the tongues of those who followed him
Elias prophet, peace be upon him, may Allah keep him safe and show pity on him for he was one of the faithful to Allah in his activities, as the Holy Quran mentions in the account of Elias and his people.
