Definition ihram for hajj

ihram for hajj in the language: A noun derived from the triple noun (haram), which includes entering into ihram for Hajj or Umrah. That is, the intention to enter into one of them, and the opinions of jurists have varied regarding the definition of ihram in legal terminology.

They are as follows:

  • Hanafi: ihram for hajj means entering into specific prohibitions that are not obligatory except with intention, dhikr, and the pilgrim’s commitment to refraining from a number of prohibitions.
  • Maliki: ihram for hajj is a legal characteristic that prevents its owner from committing what is forbidden from the prohibitions of Ihram, such as perfume, sexual intercourse, and wearing tailored clothing for men.
  • Shafi’i: ihram for hajj means the intention to enter Hajj or Umrah, or an intention suitable for both, or for one of them, and ihram is called ihram; Because it prevents its owner from doing forbidden things.
  • Hanbalis: ihram for hajj means the Muslim’s intention to engage in various rituals, without limiting them to Hajj or Umrah.

Ihram times

“Mawaqit” in the language is the plural of “meeqat”; It is the time specified for the action, and it was later used for the place, such as the times for Hajj and Umrah, so it is said: the time for the people of the Levant.

That is, the place from which they must enter ihram. As for the miqat in terminology, it has two meanings: The first: The time in which the ritual takes place, whether it is Hajj or Umrah, and the second: The place of ihram for the ritual.

Miqat zmani

The Prophet – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – specified specific time periods for the Hajj that cannot be performed at any other time. These times begin from the beginning of the month of Shawwal and extend to the Day of Sacrifice.

It was said that they extend to the end of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. Evidence that it is permissible for the pilgrim to delay the Tawaf al-Ifadah until the end of Dhul-Hijjah.

As for Umrah, it does not have a specific time. It is permissible for a Muslim to perform it on any day of the year, except that there are times when it is not permissible to enter ihram for Umrah, such as someone who is in ihram for hajj, according to the consensus of scholars.

Miqat mkani

The Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him – determined for each people of a country a specific meeqat for them, and it is not permissible for anyone who wants to go beyond it for Hajj or Umrah unless he is in ihram, because entering ihram from the meeqat is one of the duties of Umrah and Hajj.

With the exception of the people of Mecca, or whoever is residing there. They enter ihram from a place called (Al-Hil), and then they perform the rituals related to Hajj or Umrah. As for those who stay after the appointed times; He is deprived of his place.

The spatial timings are: Dhu al-Hulayfa; It is the miqat of the people of Medina, and it is called “Abyar Ali” and Al-Juhfa. For the people of the Levant, it is called “Rabigh” and Qarn Al-Manazil. For the people of Najd, and Yalamlam; For the people of Yemen, and whoever is from other than those countries, he will also be deprived of the times specified by the Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.

Conditions for ihram

Jurists stipulated several conditions for the validity of ihram for hajj, which we will mention below:

  • Islam.
  • Intention, and it is in the heart; Such as if a Muslim intends to perform Hajj or Umrah on his own behalf or on behalf of someone else by specifying his name, and it is Sunnah to pronounce it by saying: “At Your command, O Allah, a Hajj on behalf of so-and-so,” or saying: “At Your command, O Allah, a Umrah on behalf of so-and-so, son of so-and-so.” Thus, the pilgrim confirms what is in his heart.
  • In the obligatory Hajj, it is not required to specify the intention of the obligatory Hajj if the person in ihram has not performed the Hajj before. His argument falls apart from the argument of the obligation, according to the agreement of the jurists.
  • Talbiyah, which is any statement, remembrance, or supplication that indicates the glorification of Allah, and entering ihram without it is not valid according to the Hanafi school of thought, and the majority of scholars did not stipulate it.
